Current Research in Ocular Antiinflammatory and Antiinfective Medications
Phase IV studies of approved drugs broaden and deepen our understanding of their actions and applications. Reported in scientific paper and poster sessions at major meetings, little of this work is disseminated to clinicians. Many of these studies, however, have data and conclusions that are highly relevant to day-to-day clinical decision making.
Current Research in Ocular Antiinflammatory and Antiinfective Medications has been produced as an independent Continuing Medical Education enduring material, sponsored by Alcon.

Current Research in Ocular Antiinflammatory and Antiinfective Medications
Spring 2008
Current Research in Ocular Antiinflammatory and Antiinfective Medications, May 2008 is to make clinically relevant study findings available to clinicians as rapidly as possible. This educational activity seeks to present recent findings with respect to topical ocular antibiotic and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss recent findings related to the use of topical agents for the treatment of ocular allergy
- Relate research findings to treatment decisions for patients with seasonal and perennial allergic conjunctivitis

Fall 2007
Current Research in Ocular Antiinflammatory and Antiinfective Medications, November 2007 seeks to present recent findings with respect to topical ocular antibiotic and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These are presented in the form of structured summaries that provide purpose, experimental design, evidence obtained, and conclusions. An Introduction provides a context for looking evaluating the clinical significance of the studies presented and their applicability to clinical practice.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the efficacy of topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for reducing cataract surgery complications.
- Describe recent studies using topical NSAID to treat or prevent retinal thickening.
- Relate recent findings with respect to the antibacterial activity of topical ocular fluoroquinolones.
